2012-2013 UGBC Elections Preview: Meet the Candidates

Today marks a pivotal part of every year at BC: the official start of campaigning for the 2012-2013 UGBC elections.  Soon, students can expect to see a flurry of banners and eager campaigners throughout campus in support of the teams postulating for presidency.  HC BC got a sneak peek at some of the candidates this week at the UGBC Preliminary Meet and Greet. 

Chris Osnato and Kudzai Taziva
“Because You Matter”
 
Campaign highlights:  An emphasis on passion – particularly, bringing passion back to all areas of BC student life; reconnecting UGBC with the undergraduate community; enhancing the student experience through collaboration within organizations.
 
A word to HC BC readers:
“One thing that we’re really trying to stress is making sure the undergraduates know what the undergraduate government is all about,” stated Osnato.
“We want to have opportunities for people to find their passion here, have a good time, and ultimately feel fulfilled when they graduate,” shared Taziva.
 
Vanessa Gomez and Jennifer Wanandi
“To New Heights”
 
Campaign highlights:  Finding new resources to help “set the world aflame” through students’ talents, abilities, and visions; revitalizing student life and restructuring UGBC as a whole; a focus on transparency, advocacy, programming, and student formation.
 
A word to HC BC readers:
“At the heart and mission of our campaign, we’re really stressing our campaign slogan, which is ‘To New Heights,’” shared Wanandi.  “As the only two girls in the race, which is pretty awesome, I feel like we’re really stretching BC tradition and creating new ones, really proving to everyone that anyone on campus can achieve anything that they are doing.”
 
Conor Sullivan and Daniel Tonkovich
“Including U in UGBC”
 
Campaign highlights:  Helping students realize their dreams, “creating your own directorship” through a Start Up Fund for student ideas; an ongoing conversation about various issues on campus through the new program Let’s Talk; promoting open communication between the student body and UGBC.
 
A word to HC BC readers:
“Let’s Talk is not only for race.  Let’s talk about issues of gender, let’s talk about issues of sexuality, let’s talk about issues of socioeconomic status,” shares Tonkovich.  “It really is about popping this BC Bubble. How can you get outside and really be your true self?”
 
Now that the campaign has officially started, candidates can release their full campaign platforms.  Be on the lookout for events and chances to hear more about these candidates, including future HC BC coverage.  Stay informed, collegiettes™, and remember to vote on February 22, 2012!
