One of my favorite artists, Ingrid Michaelson has hit the ground running with her new album “Human Again” which has remained the number one sold album on iTunes since its release on January 24.
Â
The tracks are honest and relatable, as Michaelson’s music has always been. Since her debut on Grey’s Anatomy, Bones, and One Tree Hill, Michaelson’s fans have accused her of becoming accommodatingly mainstream. I disagree with these accusations in saying that her songs, while possibly more upbeat, are nonetheless true to her original image as an indie artist.
Â
The album begins with a fast paced, “Fire” and opening lyrics “Open heart surgery/That is what you do to me.” Like “Palm of Your Hand,” this track doesn’t trade the pop feeling for lyrical quality.
Â
As she previously has, Michaelson provides a heartbreaking song in “I’m Through” to reclaim her original ability to relate with her listeners. Tracks like “How We Love,” “Ghost,” and “Ribbons” contribute individual tones without going over-the-top with the pop feeling.
Â
“Human Again” is the perfect album to play while doing homework or as background music to a morning routine. Unfortunately for us and most fortunate for her, almost all of Michaelson’s tour is sold out this spring, so look for tickets ASAP.
Â
In anticipation of their new record, the Fray is allowing free streaming of their new album, “Scars and Stories,” available on February 7. Although the sound of the album appears almost identical to their last album, self-titled “The Fray” in 2009, I feel that their talent cannot be overlooked or generalized. The main piano-component of their songs is powerful and the lead vocals from Issac Slade are remarkably distinct. The band’s on-stage presence is an experience as well, and I recommend investing in tickets to their concert tour as well.

Other singles to look out for:

from new album “Fallen Empires”
Â
Bruce Springsteen “We Take Care of Our Own”
from anticipated album “Wrecking Ball” due to be released on March 6.
Â
Train “Drive By”
