The Boy From Last Night: 5 Fun First Text Messages to Send HIM

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

So you met this cute boy last night, you had a great time with him, and you even exchanged phone numbers. Now what?

If you are anything like me, you are definitely expecting a text from him first! Nowadays, us girls not only want a guy to text us, we anticipate it.  There are definitely guys out there that don’t quite have the “balls” to text you first. So, now it’s your turn.

Anxiously waiting, you decide to make the first move. You sit there staring at your phone, thinking about what to say. You might even begin to text, but tell yourself it’s not good enough, and start deleting. Well ladies, I’m here to help! Here are a few principles to keep in mind before you send the text that just might make or break it with your new guy.

First off, let’s go over some quick No-No’s as a first text:

  1. Hey what’s up?
  2. Hey, remember me? It’s ___ from ___!
  3. Hey, I had a good time last night. Let’s hangout.

What’s the problem with these?  Let me break it down.  The first one says, “Hi, I’m boring.”  The second one is a little better, but you sound like every other girl! You have to stand out – you want him to remember you. The third text is bad because it provokes no response. Unfortunately ladies, they’re boys. They get bored easily and they don’t look far into anything. So unless you wore your sexiest outfit that night, he probably won’t remember you.

Here are some great texts to send that show a little of your personality and make him want to text you:

  •  1. Hii :) It’s (insert name here), I was the girl that you crushed in beer pong! Clearly I was off my game, we’ll have to have a rematch!

This first text is a great one to send because it’s fun, friendly and shows that you have a little bit of a tough side while still boosting his ego. By recalling the night, you give him a chance to remember playing a game with you and having a lot of fun.

  • 2. Heyy, It’s (insert name here), I never got to thank you for buying me a drink last night. The next one’s on me. ;)

This second idea is great because you’re not only being sweet and thanking him for buying you a drink last night, but you are also implying that you would like to see him again. By offering to buy him a drink shows you are independent.

  • 3. Hey! Soo… my jeans reek of beer thanks to yourparty foul ;) What are you gonna do about it?

Send this text if you dare! If you are confident and sarcastic, this is the perfect message. By showing a little attitude, you show that you can handle yourself but still know how to have a good time.

  • 4. Hey, how are you feeling? If you had as much fun as I did, you could sleep the wholee day. =/

This text message is more on the safe side. By asking about him and how he is feeling, you show that you are interested. By also talking about the night and implying that you had a great time, you get to see if you’re on the same page!

  • 5. So, I was wondering, how much does a polar bear weigh?
  • (wait for it….)
  • Enough to break the ice :)

Corny, I know. But how fun?! Little jokes that will make him smile are the perfect way to start a conversation. Trust me, if he’s a fun guy, he’ll think it’s cute!

So ladies, I hope these few guidelines will steer you in the right direction the next time you come across a shy boy. Remember, don’t think that if you text first you seem desperate – especially when you can use these to show him how fun you are and make him smile!
