Colorado Student Tries to “Glitter Bomb” Mitt Romney

During a recent visit to Denver, Mitt Romney sparkled a little more than he had anticipated. The Republican presidential hopeful was greeting his supporters when he was unexpectedly showered with glitter.

Peter Smith, a 20-year-old college student from the University of Colorado Denver, decided to “glitter bomb” Romney on Tuesday, an act that is usually done in protest of a politician opposed to same-sex marriage. Romney was quickly removed from the crowd by security and Smith was immediately whisked away by Denver police.

Denver police charged Peter Smith with causing a disturbance, throwing a missile, and unlawful acts. Police say the action is a threat, no matter what object or substance is thrown, even if it is glitter. Because of this threat, Smith could face up to a year in prison and a $1,000 fine if he is convicted of the “glitter bombing” according to CBS News.

Smith has absolutely no regrets. He told CBS Denver, “I am not sorry that this has caused some publicity and embarrassment for him [Romney]; no not at all. The people of Colorado are not going to stand by and watch the country be turned over into the hands of Mitt Romney.”
