What to Do if You’re Single this V Day

These days, it seems as though Saint Hallmark has diluted Valentine’s Day into a couples-only event. And while being a single gal in college may seem like a drag, it’s important to remember that V-Day is a day of all kinds of love and appreciation. I know that won’t mean much when you’re YouTubing, Facebooking, or having a good old fashioned cry in your room while everyone else is out, so I’ve compiled a list of things to do when you find yourself alone on Valentine’s Day.

1. Have a movie marathon

Call up some friends and plan a fun movie marathon. Don’t skimp out on the snacks either. Avoid cheesy romantic flicks and opt for timeless comedies like Zoolander and Mean Girls.

Cook (or order) yourself a nice dinner. Whether you consider yourself to be a master chef or not, treat yourself to some good grub. Give yourself a pat on the back for not needing a guy to buy it for you.

2. Throw an anti-Valentine’s Day party

Draw some inspiration from that star studded film “Valentine’s Day” and throw an anti-Valentine’s Day party. This doesn’t necessarily call for a heart shaped piñata (but if you want to get one, knock yourself out) or a super angry singles fest, just let loose with some other singles. Tell stories, joke around, have a good laugh!

3. Spend some time doing what you like to do

This one is kind of a no brainer. If you like writing, bust out the good ole pen and paper. Listen to your favorite jams while you’re at it. If you enjoy organizing, clean out your book bag, or if you wanna take it to the next level, clean your room! There’s nothing better than relaxing in a nice, organized space you can call your own. Whatever it may be, do what you like. You’ll find it gives you a very accomplished feeling.

There’s no shame in being alone on Valentine’s Day. Take some time off and treat yourself, and appreciate the love you share with friends and family.
