The groundhog has spoken and we have been sentenced to another six long weeks of the winter blues. Some days it gets so cold that you will not even want to leave your bed for class, let alone put effort into your outfit. Don’t let the cold weather at UNH get you down! Here are some simple and quick ways to stay cute and warm around campus this winter.

Sweaters-Always remember that layers are your friends. Wear a cute tee or tank and then throw a cardigan over it. It is an easy way to make any shirt winter-friendly. Sweaters and cardigans are also great because after a long walk across campus to class, a sweater is easy to remove when in a warm classroom. Sweaters come in all different varieties. Make sure to wear tight jeans or leggings with a baggy sweater to avoid loosing your shape. It is best to find sweaters that accentuate your frame to avoid a bulky look.

Jackets –When the North Face jacket no longer is enough, a pea coat is the perfect way to stay warm and cute while roaming Durham. Pea coats come in a variety of styles and colors while adding tons of warmth. These coats are also more fitting than most typical winter jackets. They can be dressed up for a night out to dinner or dressed down for walking to class. Go out of your comfort zone by getting a jacket in a bright color or one that has fur accents.

Scarves– Scarves come in an endless assortment of colors, shapes, and sizes so no matter the temperature there will always be one to fit your outfit. They can be worn just outside or kept on over your shirt all day. Scarves are the perfect way to add a pop of color to typical bland winter outfits. Top off any outfit with a matching hat and you’ll be bundled up in cuteness.

Tights and Leggings– Snow on the ground does not mean you have to pack away your favorite skirts and dresses. Patterned tights or leggings make skirts or dresses winter appropriate. They can also be worn under any pair of loose fitting jeans. Sweater leggings are even thicker for those below freezing days.

Boots– Giant snow boots may seem like the only option to keep your feet warm and dry, but shove those to the back of your closest and bring out a pair of waterproof and insulated boots. If needed buy a waterproofing kit because salt stains are never “in”. Don’t fret about spending too much on a great pair of boots. They’ll be worth every penny when your feet are staying dry and warm. A great pair of tall leather boots can be worn with just about any outfit. Wearing a pair of wool socks inside of your boots will keep your toes toasty all day.

Lotion!!-Moisturizing is the easiest and most important rule to follow in the winter. No one looks cute with dry skin, so make sure to use a moisturizer over your entire body every morning before getting dressed to keep away from the dry skin caused by the frigid New England winters.
