With Valentine’s Day here, most of us are either hate walking into a Hallmark store or get giddy at the sight of hearts and roses. This is the first Valentine’s Day in six years that I’ve been single, but I’m certainly not joining the, “I hate Valentine’s Day” side. Maybe I’ll always be a romantic, but I think it’s important not to shrug off this holiday even if you’re single. Enough with pessimist attitudes and grumpiness because we’ll all find love sooner or later.

For those who are in a relationship…I think it’s a good idea to think outside of the box, and purchase more personalized gifts for your boyfriend or girlfriend. Here are two of my favorite gift ideas for this year:

For Her: Initial necklace
These necklaces have been a hot item for over a year. I’m a huge fan since they are so delicate and can be worn with anything.
It’s a perfect item for a male to give to their girlfriend. Not only is it jewelry (and what girl doesn’t love getting jewelry!?) but the initial pendant makes it more personal.

For Him: Beer of the Month
One of my male friends tried out beer of the month and I thought it was such a great idea. What guy doesn’t enjoy good beer?
You can purchase a 6 or 12-month package, with a different brand and flavor of beer being deliver each month. Not only is it convenient, but it’s also such a “guy’s girl” gift that shows your creative side.

While my Valentine’s Day this year will consist of me seeing, “The Vow,” with girlfriends, I hope anyone—single or in a relationship is able to enjoy this Hallmark holiday.
