Thinking of studying abroad next semester? Well you better be on your way to finishing the checklist! If you don’t know what the checklist is, take a visit to the International Affairs office in Duffy. There, you will be given a pink sheet with everything you ever needed to know about wanting to study abroad.
The checklist offers two sections; planning, which includes everything from meetings, to course approval, to financial aid, and pre-departure, which is basically everything you need to know up until the minute your plane leaves the runway.
Aside from all of the Stonehill deadlines, you also have to be concerned about your program’s deadlines. Since Stonehill many times, works through other organizations, there are separate deadlines for the specific program you are interested in.
Here are some highlights from the checklist:
Attend a “Getting Started” session
These are super important, and also mandatory. They explain all of the broad aspects of study abroad at Stonehill that you may be wondering about.
Develop a 4-year plan
This is crucial! You obviously need to make sure if a semester, or even a year, abroad works into your schedule.
Decide upon a program
Obviously you should know where you want to go, and if you meet the standards for the program.
Course Selection and Approval
Pick your abroad classes, and meet with your department chair and ensure you will receive credit for these courses.
Attend a mandatory pre-departure meeting
You will be notified where/when this meeting will take place, but make sure you go! Last minute advice and tips will be given here
These are just some highlights of the checklist, of course, you need to complete everything on the checklist, so taking a quick trip to International Affairs will only help you down the road. Alice Cronin, the director of International Programs at Stonehill says she and her colleagues are, “committed to assisting each student explore a study abroad or international internship experience that best fits their major or minor and their personal interests…Our office is located in Duffy Academic Center Room 131 and we look forward to meeting with student to discuss their abroad options.”
