What college-aged girl in America doesn’t love Ryan Gosling these days? Would you believe me if I told you his beautiful bod was actually in and around the University of Scranton campus? It’s all so wonderfully true. Though the movie Blue Valentine was released in 2010, parts of the University of Scranton campus were used as settings, remaining captured on film for any Ryan Gosling lover or independent movie buff to view until the end of time.

An independent drama, Blue Valentine, was filmed on our very own University of Scranton campus, the streets of downtown Scranton, at an off-campus Hill Section apartment, and nearby in Carbondale and Honesdale. On-campus locations that made their way into the movie include: outside the DeNaples Center near the Dionne Green, the wrestling room in the Long Center, and a classroom in the Loyola Hall of Science. Yes, you can now accurately say that at one time Ryan Gosling and co-star Michelle Williams were breathing the very same Scranton air as you.

Blue Valentine was released in 2010 to a limited number of theaters but earned a generally positive critical reception. It was nominated for seventeen different awards in 2010 ranging from Academy Awards to Golden Globes to Independent Spirit Awards. With such a lauded reputation as well as the rising fame of Ryan Gosling, it is only a matter of time before Gosling fans will reach for Blue Valentine and get an eyeful of our beloved University of Scranton Campus. Maybe Ryan Gosling enjoyed his time in Scranton so much he’ll come back one day…Hey, a girl can dream can’t she?
