Whitney Houston’s funeral was yesterday and everyone mourned the loss of a great singer and talented artist. On a positive note her ultimate collection CD topped iTunes and Amazon’s mp3 charts. I got a text message from my mother earlier this week saying how she was just listening to Whitney Houston and then she quote “goes and dies on me.” It seems that when someone famous dies, it is like the whole world stops to remember them. After the news broke that she was dead, all of my friends played her music or took shots in her honor. For the next couple of days the whole campus was abuzz with the news. I could randomly hear people blasting her music from my south campus apartment. I too have to admit that I was one of those people who played “I wanna dance with somebody” while prancing around my room.

And who didn’t watch the Grammy’s the next night to see Jennifer Hudson’s tribute? I think it’s good to remember someone who used her musical ability and shared it with the world. I can see why people would want to play her music in her memory because a small part of us feels connected to the person when we hear the songs. Especially since her music has not been played recently (unless you are my mother) and it’s good to bring back the oldies but goodies some times. So please feel free to keep blasting Whitney’s “How will know” and dance like no one is watching because I would like to believe that she is looking down and smiling laughing at how bad your dancing skills are.
