On Wednesday, February 15, 2012, Aaron Torres signed copies of his new book, The Unlikeliest Champion: The Incredible Story of the 2011 UConn Huskies and Their Run to the College Basketball National Championship, at the University of Connecticut’s Co-op bookstore in Storrs, Conn.

The book follows the university’s basketball team on their tenacious path to last year’s National Championship.
Torres, a UConn alumnus and a sports journalist, said that he was drawn to the story of the team’s perseverance in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.

When the season opened, no one predicted the Huskies would make it far given their poor performance the previous year. But critics and fans were proved wrong when the team made it to the Big East Tournament and then won the National Championship.

“It was one of those things where you don’t have to be a fan to appreciate it,” Torres said of the story’s wide appeal. “This was a really good story,” he added.

Two UConn students, Ashley Pospisil and Ed Ryan, contributed their basketball photographs to Torres’s book, and were proud to see their images in print.

“My life’s work is being fulfilled,” Pospisil said.

Torres said he was honored to host a book signing at his alma mater. More than 20 students gathered for the event.
