Since being rated one of the most socially awkward campuses (although most of us could’ve told you that without the official ranking), it seems that bringing our general attention to socially awkwardness in the media is imperative, so we can either appreciate how normal being socially awkward is, or get our acts together and become less uncomfortable people interact with
One of the best new shows is the New Girl on Fox. Starring Zooey Deschanel, an awk-ie herself, the show is about a quirky girl who moves into a loft with three best friends from college, and about their lives together. This show is hilarious, mostly because of how unbelievably awkward it is. Zooey Deschanel’s character is an elementary school teacher who sings out of the blue about her life, and makes car-honking noises when she sees an attractive man. Her three roommates are equally eclectic: one who just came back to the states after playing Latvian basketball, one who was overweight in college and now regularly contributes to ‘The Douchebag Jar’, and one who calls his ex-girlfriend when he’s drunk and tells her he misses her in a fake british accent.
Honestly, there are people on our campus like these people. This is one of the best shows because its more real than anything I’ve seen in a while – even though the situations are ridiculous and the people are a little crazy. We can either accept it or change it – take your pick.
