Ah, it’s that time of year again when designers, fashionistas, and the editorial elite come together for the most celebrated spectacle on the global runway. Yes collegiettes, it’s New York Fashion Week! Just as we are getting through the last of winter, it’s already time to think about Fall 2012 trends—and it looks like it is going to be a good one.

This year, Fashion Week has welcomed some new but already noteworthy names to the tents, including one particularly near and dear to our hearts. J. Crew made their debut on Wednesday, already garnering rave reviews from critics and consumers alike. Creative Director Jenna Lyons focused on highly stylized outfits featuring gorgeous colored pencil skirts, boyfriend blazers, and floral printed pants. Along with the line presentation, J. Crew announced its partnership with the one and only Manolo Blahnik for an exclusive shoe collection. Talk about brand elevation!

Another fan favorite, Michael Kors showed a strong collection complete in exquisite neutrals, pops of red, and lots of texture (read: fur, fur, and more fur)! After his show, the value of his recently-public stock (late 2011) went up 27 percent—as if you needed more proof that he is a fashion superstar.

Speaking of texture, Mr. Marc Jacobs himself was quite playful in his use of brocades, fur, and leather appliqués. The models sauntered down his faux winter wonderland runway topped in extravagant Eduardian-esque hats and voluminous silhouettes. Personally, I adore this monochromatic look, right down to the diamond-encrusted buckles on the shoes. I don’t know how he manages to design his own line at the same time as Louis Vuitton. Can you say creative genius?

And finally, we can’t forget it’s not all about what’s being shown on the runway! What the attendees are wearing is just as important! I love the Olsen twins sophisticated all-black ensemble at the J Mendel show (sunglasses necessary, obviously). Texture is again the forefront of their ensembles, with the addition of the crocodile tote and satin details on their blazers. Nothing says chic to me like impeccable tailoring and black clothing.

These are just a few highlights from a fabulous week which wrapped up on February 16 with the Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein shows. The blogosphere is going wild with images of fashion editors, celebrities, and models if you crave more or are in need of some outfit inspiration!

I am a Senior Business and Enterprise Management Major at Wake Forest University hailing from Palm City, FL. I love all things fashion-related (blog reading, vintage shopping, etc.), city life, and entrepreneurship. After spending two summers working in the business (Tommy Hilfiger in NYC and Banana Republic in San Francisco), I hope to continue my retail training after I graduate in the spring. I spent last fall in Florence, Italy so you may hear about my love of all things Italian (from Prada to Pucci). You can say I am an Italophile for many reasons besides fashion though. I have been involved with Her Campus since my sophomore year as a blogger and currently serve as the PR Director for my campus.

Jackie Swoyer is a rising senior at Wake Forest University majoring in Business and Enterprise Management, concentrating in Marketing and minoring in Economics. While her collegiate years have been spent in the Carolinas, this aspiring marketer currently calls Cincinnati, Ohio home...although she has spent years moving all over the country and beyond (including a five year period in Europe!). She is currently prepping for a summer internship in the Frito Lay Marketing Division in Plano, Texas, a new stop on her geographical repertoire. An avid reader of all things Her Campus, Jackie also loves to write, listen to Pandora, practice her cooking skills, and find live music anywhere she can.
