Guys have it so easy – they don’t have to deal with painful 5-inch stilettos or skintight strapless dresses in order to look good on a night out. Let’s be honest here, most guys throw on basketball shorts and a t-shirt and call it high fashion. But, haven’t you ever secretly wanted to raid your boyfriend’s closet and see what the hype is all about? Whether it’s one of his old t-shirts or a well-worn, oversized sweater, something about menswear is so sexy, not to mention ridiculously comfortable. And lucky for us, the look is back for the season; from J. Crew’s “boyfriend jeans” to Topshop’s “boyfriend blazer,” designers can’t seem to get enough of this trend. Here are a few ways you can incorporate your guy’s clothes into your spring wardrobe.

1. V-neck and Crewneck Sweaters

If you are looking for that perfectly slouchy sweater to pair with your favorite skinny jeans, your boyfriend’s sweaters are definitely the way to go. Guys always have a ton of worn-in, comfy sweaters that are at your disposal, so hit up your man or a good guy friend’s closet to switch up your wardrobe staples. Don’t have a boyfriend? Check out AllSaints Spitalfields for the best cozy, oversized sweaters that will take you stylishly into spring.

2. Oxfords

These button-down shirts are perfect for spring and can even take you all the way into summer. Steal your guy’s striped or solid shirt (p.s. it looks better a few sizes too big!) and cuff the sleeves to achieve that perfect, relaxed look. Also, if your boyfriend happens to be a lot taller than you, wear his oxford as a cute swimsuit cover-up during spring break or over the summer. Currently single? Try the button-downs in the Brooks Brothers’ boy’s section for the ideal fit.

3. Flannel

Here at Lawrence, men and their flannel shirts are rarely seen one without the other. Surely you will be able to find a guy here who will let you steal a few of his tried-and-true shirts for a while. Channel your inner hipster by adding skinny jeans and Ray Bans to complete the outfit. If you want to look a bit more preppy, add a belt and flats. Don’t have a boyfriend? Madewell makes great flannel button-downs in various prints and colors.

4. Watches

One of my favorite accessories has always been my dad’s huge, vintage wrist watch, as it works as a piece of statement jewelry as well as a way of keeping me on task during the day. The chic combination of a masculine watch with a loose sweater or t-shirt is perfect for getting a relaxed, sophisticated look. If your man doesn’t wear a watch, consider giving him an early birthday present that you can “break in” for him. I would definitely recommend Mougin and Piquard’s line for J. Crew.

5. Jeans

This one can be kind of tricky if your boyfriend isn’t close to your size. Belts can come in handy when working this trend, but otherwise I would try to find “boyfriend jeans” that are designed in women’s sizes. These loose-fitting, slightly weathered pants that are available at every major department store as well as other popular chains like Gap and Topshop. Personally, I love Current/Elliott’s “boyfriend jeans,” as they come in countless cuts and washes to achieve the best stolen-from-your-guy’s-closet look.

6. Blazer

Although your boyfriend may not be the type to shirtlessly play polo atop his galloping steed with an immaculate blazer carelessly slung over his shoulder (as Ralph Lauren would like us all to believe), most guys have some kind of dressy jacket in their closets. As your boyfriend will most likely not be wearing it too often, someone should get good use out of it. Try wearing his blazer with a soft, layering piece and either leggings or skinny jeans to offset the masculine quality of the jacket. Just add heels, and you are ready for a night out! Currently single? Both Theory and Ralph Lauren Rugby make great blazers for women that are more form-fitting.
