It’s that time of the month again…. here come the pints of Ben and Jerry’s and family size potato chip bags, right? Wrong. Fighting the urge to binge and focusing on healthy foods to eat when you’ve got your period will actually make yourself feel better. Fatigue and moodiness definitely don’t help with your willpower, but certain foods can make all those symptoms more tolerable!

Love that Hewitt pineapple? I know I do. Well, ladies, the good news is that the manganese found in pineapple helps relieve cramps. Drinking a lot of water also helps reduce cramps and bloating, as well as that banana your mother always told you to eat. Whole grains will fight fatigue and make you feel calmer (always a plus), so reach for that whole wheat bread, pasta, brown rice, cereal and popcorn, and resist the cookies. If you’re feeling extra moody, try spinach, salmon and walnuts in addition to the whole grains to help relax the, um, “emotional instability”.

Of course, who can forget it—the classic chocolate bar. Go for it! Try choosing dark chocolate if you can though because it has antioxidants that can help boost your mood!

During this delightful time of the month, all of your senses are heightened. So splurge a little! Treat yourself to a nice restaurant that you’ve always wanted to try.
