Looking for some inspiration for spring? The University of Georgia student body is here to help! Embodying Athen’s disposition for fresh trends, the UGA held its first annual fashion week. The weeklong event kicked off with a dance party and film festival and concluded with two student-produced fashion shows.

Located in the Tate Grand Hall, the Student Merchandising Association (SMA) redecorated the ballroom into a New York worthy runway for its 18th annual fashion show. The event showcased outfits from local Athens boutique’s including Agora, Cheeky Peach, Cillie’s, Community, Flirt Fashions, Heery’s, Minx Vintage, Pitaya, Private Gallery, ShowPony, and Sonia Says. Prior to the show, SMA raffled of seven t-shirts from the pre-show sponsor, Alta Garcia Sportswear. All of the show’s proceeds benefitted the UGA HERO organization. The show centered on the theme, Destination: Spring Break, presenting bright fresh clothes for its audience. Each look presented a pop of color, including neon shirts, pants, shoes, and accessories. And SMA did not fail to follow every girls accessorizing rule: No outfit is complete without fabulous shoes!

To end fashion week, UGA’s Fashion and Design Student Association (FDSA) hosted it’s own student produced fashion show. In lieu of the theme “Where the Wild Things Are”, FDSA held its show in the Botanical Gardens Visitor Center. The show featured 15-student designers. Each designer created three pieces with his/her own unique inspiration. Among the creators, FDSA president, senior Stacia Andrews presented her collection inspired by “young classy women who have edge”. The show’s proceeds benefitted Radio Tanzania.
