Hello Collegiettes!
I have successfully completed the first week of my internship. YAY! So now that my internship basically controls my life I figured this week I would tell you a little bit about it, why I am so excited, and what I have done so far.
As I mentioned last week I am working at Nueluxe. It is an online magazine focused on sustainable luxury that is about to launch by late Spring. In case you aren’t familiar with sustainable luxury, it is a growing trend in the luxury industry to be both environmental and socially conscious. The Nueluxe website will focus on categories from hotels and resorts to fashion and makeup, to ease the consumer in finding socially and environmentally responsible businesses, while also telling the consumer some of the background behind that venture.
So that is a little background as to what the magazine is about and what it hopes to do—I have come in at a really exciting point in the process, just because there is so much to be done. My boss, Nina Rennie, who is the founder of the company, is giving me really hands-on opportunities to write as well as be involved with the PR leading up to the website launch. I have also just been doing a lot of research on sustainability, because honestly before this internship my knowledge was fairly limited.
Nina is also very involved with various organizations that share her sustainable outlook that is fueled her desire to create Nueluxe. So on my second day of work I walked in the International Women’s Day Parade with Nina and handed out leaflets for an organization called Hagar. Nina’s friend Myriam heads up the UK branch and had asked her to help, so Nina invited me to tag along. Hagar works with women and children who have survived extreme cases of abuse and exploitation.
It was an absolutely beautiful day in London as countless women marched across the millennium bridge and around the Thames celebrating the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. It was a really interesting experience to be a part of, and from the experience I am actually get the opportunity to write and learn more about Hagar for Nueluxe.
So that was me gushing about my internship, which as I mentioned is now what my life basically centers around. It was also my friend Kelsey’s birthday this weekend, so much celebrating occurred. I even made cupcakes for the occasion!
This weekend is St. Patrick’s Day, and even though we are in London and they care much less about this celebration than us Americans do, we are still planning on finding the Irish in England!
So I will be sure to fill you all in on the Green fun next week!
