March Madness: Where’s Your Bracket?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

It’s that time of spring again, ladies! March Madness… when all the men in your life are glued to the television screen flipping back and forth between college basketball games. When you’re in class, take a look around. Most likely the guy sitting in front of you is watching ESPN Live on their computer. Essentially, the only things on guys’ minds are which team they picked for their bracket, how many upsets there will be and as long as they’re beating what’s-his-name they won’t be mad.

There’s only one thing for you to do: fill out your own bracket! Even if you don’t follow basketball or the tournament has already started, the challenge of guessing the winning team is fun enough. For your convenience, here’s a little background to all the madness…

March Madness is a single-elimination tournament of the NCAA’s Men’s Division 1 basketball teams. There are 68 teams divided into four regions, which are then organized into their own separate brackets. Over the span of three weeks, each bracket eliminates teams until it narrows down to the infamous “Sweet Sixteen” and then the “Final Four.” The national championship game will be played around the first week in April.

When it comes to filling out your bracket, there’s no science to it at all. Every game is unpredictable and most of the time the victory comes down to the suspenseful final seconds. So if you’re not sure which team to pick, don’t stress! Just base your choice off simple characteristics like the school colors, the school mascot or even the school with more attractive players. Unfortunately, the percentage of your bracket being 100 percent correct is similar to the percentage of you winning the Mega Millions: highly unlikely.

You’re most likely going to be hearing about March Madness for the next three weeks, so why not get interested and involved? Guys love girls who know sports! Start dribbling!
