Preparing for Summer: It’s Not too Early!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

Sunday’s filled with campus golf, sun tanning in Bowman, and the occasional slip and slide make for a relaxing spring. With formals, informals, Little 5, and almost every weekend jammed packed with baseballs games and other events, it’s hard to think summer’s right around the corner, despite the familiar warm weather. But let’s face it ladies, in two months, the last thing you want to do is take your last final and think, what now? Here are some ideas to keep the fun rolling as you dive into beautiful summer!

Jobs
This might not seem like the most fun idea, but who doesn’t want experience and a little extra cash? Start perfecting your résumé and cover letter now to make sure you get that perfect internship or summer job. Apply early, and you’ll seem that much more on top of things in the eyes of your future employers. And don’t fret when it comes to the interview, as long as you’re prepared, you’ll knock it down.

Visiting friends
It can be sad to leave your college friends for a whole three months, especially when you’ve spent every day with them all year! Decide on a meeting place where all of you can go near the middle of the summer to break it up. If you’re only visiting one friend, make it easy on yourself, and split the cost. Wisconsin Dells, road trips, or beach days in downtown Chicago are a few cheap ideas in the Midwest that are perfect to reconnect in the warm weather.

Vacations
Summer is the ultimate vacation time! This might sound expensive especially for college kids, but actually backpacking can be relatively cheap. Grab your best friend and make an appointment at the Civic, Global, and Professional Opportunities office to plan an amazing summer trip to a far off country. You guaranteed some new adventures; who knows, maybe you’ll find your prince charming overseas!

Concerts
A little Lady Antebellum, maybe some Jack Johnson…Lollapalooza anyone? Whatever you taste, check out the listings of your favorite bands. Buy now so you’ll have something to look forward to, and they may actually be cheaper. Combine this with visiting your friends, and you’ll have a jammed packed weekend marked on your calendar.

Stay Active
In between long days at the pool, countless nights of movie watching and days of sleeping in I think you’ll have time to be active. Being active releases endorphins, which make you happy. With the sun shining and your calendar full of fun things planed, staying active is the icing on top of a fantastic break!

In the mean time of the “fratting” that surely feels like summer, get out those calendars and make sure you aren’t left with a boring break. School can be stressful and irritating at times, but summer can be the time of your life! Plan. Do. Enjoy.

Happy scheduling!
