Are you tired of eating the same meals day in and day out? Well we have some suggestions about how to shake up your routine, all with foods that you can find in our very own Curtis and Huffman Dining Halls! Getting creative with your meals does not take too much thought, you just have to know what resources you have around you and you can come up with some pretty simple, yet delicious, creations.

I’ve found that one food option that many people do not typically choose in our dining halls is making your own oatmeal. Oatmeal is an easy and healthy meal that you can personalize to your own preference. You can add just about anything to it, whether you are going for sweet or healthy. Brown sugar, cinnamon, fruit, peanut butter, chocolate chips, and marshmallow fluff all combine wonderfully with a bowl of classic oatmeal.

If you are looking to spice up something from the grill, here are a few options for you to try! Maybe you are tired of eating a plain grilled cheese?  Well you can add a whole new taste by adding some sandwich meat from the deli, such as ham, salami or turkey. You can also add a little pizazz to a piece grilled chicken by using the various dressings and condiments from the deli as well.  Adding some chipotle mayo or pesto can always spruce up a plain piece of chicken!

We all know that sometimes the pasta can be a little dry and that the sauce lacks some serious flavor.  But by adding some veggies from the salad bar or the stir fry bar you can really spice it up a little bit. Adding a little olive oil to pasta can never hurt either.

If it is something sweet that your craving, the dining halls are, surprisingly enough, full of endless possibilities. First, and easiest of which is…toast. You can make cinnamon toast, peanut butter toast, toast with jelly, or fluffer-nutter (marshmallow fluff and PB).  The possibilities with toast are endless. Cereal is another staple that has endless possibilities of creations. You can add some granola or Chex with coconut, marshmallow fluff, peanut butter, and/or chocolate chips for your own personalized dessert delicacy.  There is always the ice cream route too where you can create a root beer float or a milkshake in no time!  And last, but certainly not least, are microwave ‘Rice Krispy-Treats’ (my personal favorite).  For this concoction you simply add Rice Krispies cereal, marshmallow fluff, and a little butter and mix it up and stick it in the microwave for about 30-45 seconds and viola! Rice Krispie Treats!

I hope that you can find a way to spice up your meal routine with these simple creations or that we’ve inspired you to try some of your own! All you need is a little creativity and an empty stomach!
