Involvio: An App that Answers the Question “What’s Happening On Campus?”

Have you ever felt overwhelmed while sorting through endless Facebook invitations trying to figure out which ones are legit? What about by the event advertisements across campus that are plastered on walls, covering the concrete from floor to ceiling? With this immense, advertising overload, how are you ever supposed to find events that you actually want to go to?

Many collegiettes face this problem on a daily basis. Of course there are always tons of events taking place in a given week ranging from academic events and sporting events to the ever-promising weekend parties. However, it can be a struggle to sift through cluttered bulletin boards, university calendars, emails, and Facebook invitations to find the most promising events on campus. That is, until now.

Involvio, a student startup and winner of the GE/OMD Student Innovation Incubator, has found a way to help the savvy collegiette find personalized answers to the extremely crucial question, “What’s happening on campus?” What started as an exclusive roll-out on six college campuses last semester has been expanded to an award-winning college-only social event website and app, now in beta.

Any student with an .edu email address and a Facebook account can sign up at www.involvio.com to find the best events happening at their school. How does it work? Well, Involvio interacts directly with Facebook to find, track, and organize every event happening on and around your specific campus. They have cleverly named their event-ranking algorithm “FOMO (fear of missing out) Fighter.” The FOMO fighter matches students with the events that they shouldn’t miss based on their individual interests, friend activity, and many other personal factors.

The philosophy behind Involvio is simple. Ari Winkleman, Involvio CEO and Drexel Univeristy senior, explains, “It really shouldn’t be this hard to figure out what’s happening within steps of your dorm room. There are so many great events happening on and around every campus that students miss simply because they didn’t hear about them, or didn’t get a Facebook invite – this is unacceptable.”

With Involvio, you will never have to worry about missing out on an event again, so what are you waiting for? The service is completely free for students and the founders promise that it will always be free. If you are interested, make an online account at involvio.com or download the Involvio app for your iPhone.
