Going to school in the south has many perks, but I’m sure many would agree that the early arrival of warm weather has to be the main one. While students at schools like Michigan and Wisconsin are still bundling up in sweaters and boots and look to the indoors as salvation from the cold weather, we Emory students have already made the switch to flip flops and jean shorts and are trying to spend as much time as possible outside. While I’m sure you’re all trying out the fabulous summer fashion trends, be sure take advantage of all the fun activities Emory and Atlanta have to offer, too.
The key is to spend your time wisely. Keep in mind that you do attend a top 20-school, so don’t let the warm weather activities completely replace your studies. Here’s a list of the top 10 best ways to spend your time in HOTlanta:
Study outside. Do you have a lot of work, but don’t feel like being cooped up in the library? Find a quiet place outside in the shade, whether it is in the quad, outside Cox, or on a random bench, and do your work.
Go for a stroll. Take a walk in Lullwater to relieve the stress of your classes and clear your head by surrounding yourself with beautiful scenery.
Support your sports. Show your school spirit by attending one of Emory’s sporting events, like a tennis match or track meet.
Check out a new neighborhood. Feeling adventurous? Take the Marta to places like Little Five Points or Decatur for a change of scenery. xThese are great places to go shopping or grab a bite to eat.
Get frozen. Cool off with some Yogli Mogli, Yogurt Tap, Menchies, Red Mango, or Yoforia. Clearly there’s no froyo shortage in ATL!
Try for a tan. Spend some quality time with your friends outside. Lie out some towels and read a magazine or book, listen to some music, and just chat with your besties (just don’t forget sunscreen!).
Pool party. Take a trip to the pool at Clairmont. Nothing is more fun than sunbathing, swimming, and socializing after a day of classes.
“Darty.” Attend day parties at your favorite frats. There is absolutely nothing better than the combination of warm weather and drinking games.
Climb Stone Mountain. It’s only a 20 minute drive away with an awesome view of the city.
Ride a roller coaster. Go to Six Flags and get your heart rate going with some exhilarating rides.
With about a month left of school, you have no time to waste! Get outside and explore Atlanta before it’s too late!
