Picking your roommate should not be as stressful as we all make the process out to be. Judging a person’s personality is one of the hardest things to do in life, but with time we all find our best friends.
Lea Michele and Dianna Agron are an example of great roommates!
1) Don’t lie when talking about yourself.
If you’re messy, don’t pretend to be clean. If you don’t drink, don’t pretend you do. If you don’t like business…well then you probably shouldn’t have applied to Bentley. This is the most important step when looking for a roommate! Most schools send out surveys to fill out on websites or Facebook groups. If you don’t tell the truth here, the search will be rough.
2) Don’t worry about adding people on Facebook before coming to school!
I can’t even tell you how many random friend requests I received that summer after senior year of high school, girls desperately and frantically trying to find their Soul-Roommate. Think about how awkward it will be when you are meeting people at school and you realize you creeped them months ago on Facebook.
3) Don’t rush.
You can’t expect to find the perfect companion and best friend the first day. Be confident that everything will turn out just the way it’s supposed to. If you get frantic and impatient, you’ll end up forcing yourself into a situation you don’t want to be in. Just wait and eventually it will all make sense.
4) Have faith in randomness.
“You’re all mine.”
Movies such as “The Roommate” have probably put false ideas into your head. Truthfully, a random roommate is NOT the end of the world. I know you think you’ll get a psycho and she’ll be horrible and creepy, and try to kill off all of your friends. But honestly some of the best roommates I’ve had were not one I chose myself.
