While we never have the best weather (despite it being Spring) and students are gradually collapsing left, right, and center, Spring Quarter is definitely still the best quarter at UChicago. Summer may be on the horizon, but take the time to experience all that the University has to offer during the springtime.

Lost for ideas? Check out some of our suggestions and love your time at UChicago before Summer’s here!:

1.     Lying on the Quad

Every visitor to UChicago has always commented on how beautiful of a campus we have, so why not truly enjoy it? Come springtime, students and faculty alike gather on the Quad to take in the gradually warming weather after months of miserable winter cold. Though it’s been a bit cooler and storm-like these past few days, expect a resurgence of sun and clear blue skies that will light up campus, giving the University a summery glow. So get your shorts and skirts ready, as spring on the Quad beckons.

2.     Summer Breeze

UChicago’s big annual summer carnival will be back in mid-May with food, games, and a concert that make for a great time! Since 1996, the event has entertained University students and provided them with (temporary) grounds to believe that UChicago is not a place where fun comes to die. Past concert lineups have included the likes of Eminem (2000) and Busta Rhymes (1998), many of which performed at Summer Breeze prior to achieving fame. So far, the concert lineup and restaurants involved remain unannounced, but Summer Breeze 2012 will still provide fun in all its forms.

3.     Beaching it at the Point

While it’s not a beach in the typical sense, the Point does offer a lot of lakeside fun to take you far away from your UChicago-related stress. With a sandy beach area and small grassy plains that dot the lakeshore, toss aside your worries to play in the waves and spend some much-needed time with friends! Or, if you’re not up for burning in the sun, walk over during the night, sit down, and enjoy the sight of downtown Chicago during the night.

4.     Exploring Hyde Park

Face it: when it’s below freezing, rainy, or just all around miserable outside, you’re much more content being holed up indoors than exposed to the elements. As a result, you’ve probably left much of Hyde Park uncovered. When the good weather finally rolls in, walk the streets of Hyde Park and get a taste for all the little shops, festivals, and restaurants you missed out on during fall and winter. Though you’re not going to have time to visit all of Hyde Park, making the effort to get to know your surroundings will give you a better grasp of UChicago’s surroundings and reveal just what kind of neighborhood you live in.

5.     End of Classes

We may love learning, but even the most dedicated student needs a break. It may only be fourth week, but keep pushing through as we only have seven more weeks to go!
