These past few weeks have been busy for our school,   with the planning of Spring Splash, ASUCR student elections, and the creation of Chalk The Walk. It has also been a really busy quarter so far and what we all want is for it to end  happily. This has already been a memorable quarter for students and we are only half way through!

First of all, I want to congratulate [You]CR for winning the ASUCR student elections. It  was a tough competition, and to win chair member and represent the students at UCR is an even tougher job. I wish you guys the best and I know that you’ll make next year even better by improving our institution in a positive way. As far as the elections go, the ASPB referendum was also passed which means that next school year every student will be charged an additional ten dollars for the ASPB Fee in order to bring better artists and more activities like Block Party, Spring Splash, guest celebrity speakers and much more. There will also be a new Theatre Performance fee that will charge  students two dollars and fifty cents quarterly to make the UCR Theatre departments  productions free for the year. Instead of paying twelve dollars to enter you will be able to attend the events for free. Associated Students are very important on any UC campus because they choose what will happen during the year and how the school will function financially. [You]CR I wish you the best of luck on your endeavors that will hopefully act as our voice on campus. Congratulations!

This past weekend was the annual music event, Spring Splash hosted by our school’s very own ASPB. The event turned out to be a big hit among students and guests. The artists that performed were Battle of the Bands Winners: The Season Finale, Capital Cities, MusiqSoulchild, and Kendrick Lamar. Spring Splash was a great way to enjoy music, eat delicious food, and enjoy the attractions. There was a Ferris wheel, hamster balls, bubble mania, food trucks, organizations in booths, and art pieces made by those participating clubs and organizationson campus. Our very own Her Campus was out there in a booth selling snacks and refreshments. Hope you stopped by our booth to say hi! And just like Block Party and Heat, Spring Splash was a sold out event  with an enourmous crowd and long lines for all of the booths and attractions.

And two weeks ago was Chalk The Walk which was if I might add a success! We had a bunch of amazing artists  that drew the most beautiful murals in the path near Coffee Bean. There were murals from the movie UP, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, superheroes, and original art designs. The first place chalk art was a 3-D drawing of the Los Angeles US bank tower and it was amazing! If you missed out on these events then you ought to consider going to them next year, but don’t panic there  are still  five more weeks of school left which are sure to be filled with plenty more fun events. And with this short amount of time left, I hope everyone makes the most out of them  Have a wonderful day and enjoy the rest of Spring Quarter!!!!
