Rihanna Defends Collaboration With Chris Brown

What with the controversy over the remixes to “Turn Up The Music” and “Birthday Cake,” Rihanna has had more than just a couple of candles to blow out.

Despite her assault in 2009, the 24-year old singer didn’t think twice about taking on Chris Brown as a collaboration partner, denying what fans believe to be provocative implications of a renewed relationship.

“I thought people were gonna be surprised that we finally did a record together,” Rihanna admitted in an interview with Esquire. “But I didn’t see how people could think it was a bad thing, you know?”

Whatever the case, with lyrics like, “It’s been a long time/I’ve been missing your body” and “If you still want to kiss it/then come and get it,” some still find it hard not to wonder.

“Rihanna owes better to her millions of female fans than to sing and dance on stage with a man who put her in hospital,” one listener said.

In the end, the “Talk That Talk” singer stood by her professionalism, insisting that in her mind, “it was just music.”

What do you think, collegiettes? Turn up the music or turn it down?
