[Warning: Spoiler alert]
Emily Maynard is known for her sweet disposition, but if this week’s episode of The Bachelorette taught us anything, it’s that the Southern belle isn’t all sugar, spice, and everything nice.
Ever since her debut on Brad Womack’s second season of The Bachelor in 2011, Maynard has been all about family, and with the advent of the new mother-daughter silhouette this season, it’s clear that her priorities have not changed.
“I will protect my family until the day I die,” Emily promised.
Unfortunately, not everyone got the memo: one of the contestants, Kalon McMahon, 27, made the mistake of referring to Emily’s daughter Ricki as “baggage.” Given her promise, Emily did not dissapoint. The result? A scathing confrontation followed by Kalon’s abrupt dismissal from the show.
“If you’d asked me about Ricki you’d see that she’s the furthest thing from baggage. Get the f**k out!” Emily scolded Kalon. “I’d love to hear you talk but not until I’m done. I got that line from you.”
Kalon did not retract his statement, though he claimed it was taken out of context. “I think she absolutely deserves a partner that can make her life easier. I certainly have knowledge that I’m probably not that man,” he said.
If that were true, why didn’t he pack up and send himself home?
“Looking back, I should’ve sent him home the second he told me not to interrupt him, but I guess it’s a good lesson learned. Ladies, always follow your gut!” Emily blogged.
Should Kalon have apologized or was he right to stand by his honesty? How well do family values fit into the premise of the show? Stay tuned, and let us know what you think, collegiettes!
