Summer used to mean no new TV shows. But clearly (and thankfully!) those days are over. While many shows we love like Gossip Girl, Grey’s Anatomy and Glee are currently on hiatus, there are plenty of shows to tune into when you’re vegging out after a lo-oong day at your internship.
Check out what the collegiettes at Her Campus are recommending you check out this summer! And let us know your favorite shows by leaving a comment below!
My absolute favorite show is “Jane By Design” on ABC Family and I am so excited that it is finally back in time for summer! I am the most cliché person I know and this is the most cliché show on air. It shows the main character, Jane, living her dream. Currently, I feel like I’m living my dream and the show brings the biggest smile to my face! I get to see her live her dreams, and then I think out loud how I wish I could live mine, and then I realize that I am and become grounded after each episode. I’m not going to lie, I may have gotten ready to the show’s theme song every morning before my internship last semester, but let’s just keep that between Her Campus and me!

I am counting down the days until “True Blood”! My friends and I make an event out of it. We find someone who has HBO, everyone brings snacks, and we hunker down for the hour episode. I hope this vampire trend in TV and movies never ends because I love it!

I’m hooked on “Pretty Little Liars”! It’s definitely my guilty pleasure TV show. To be honest, the acting is pretty bad, but the scandal, secrets, and murder mystery keep it exciting.

Summer is wedding season, so channels like TLC and WETV pump up their schedules with shows like “Say Yes to the Dress”, “My Fair Wedding”, and “Bridezillas.” I’m obsessed. Also, on a less girly note, my boyfriend and I are addicted to “Futurama.” I can’t wait until the new season. It’s such a well-written comedy.
– Katie Hampton, Design Intern, Syracuse University
This summer I’m really excited about watching “Bunheads” on ABC Family! I’m a massive Sutton Foster fan and I’m really looking forward to how she tackles this role on the small screen. Plus I love ballet! The pilot had a bombshell-cliffhanger ending and I can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen the rest of the season as well as watch the evolving relationships between the characters.
– Stephanie Beach, Campus Correspondent, New York University
I’m finally joining the cult and watching “Twin Peaks.” David Lynch is a genius and all of my Film Theory friends are fairly horrified I’ve never seen an episode. Plus, it’s on Netflix — woo!

“Franklin and Bash” is my favorite summer series, hands down. The show is wildly hilarious and always entertaining. Franklin and Bash are the ultimate grown up bros and, even with their bad-boy and very unconventional methods, they’re are shockingly impressive lawyers.

I’m actually looking forward to catching up on all the shows I missed during the year! I just got caught up with “Smash” and now I’m working on “Girls” and “30 Rock.” I love college, but I have missed my DVR!
– Elyssa Sternberg, Campus Correspondent, Boston University
Without a doubt, “Girls” is like the Holy Grail for collegiettes — it’s so realistic and witty, how could you not be obsessed? I’m also crazy about “Pretty Little Liars” (for the cute boys) and am trying to get into “Downton Abbey” (for the old, British drama)!
– Kelsey Mulvey, Contributing Writer, Boston University
I love “The Bachelorette” this season! Even though I don’t have much faith in the process that the show uses, I love Emily and am hopeful that things will work out for her this season — she seems very discerning!
– Jenni Whalen, Contributing Writer, Bucknell University
I love “The Glee Project.” You’ve got to love watching a group of underdogs singing and dancing their way to their dreams!
– Michelle Lewis, Life Editor/Editorial Intern, UNC Chapel Hill
I love “True Blood”! It’s so addictive and I just finished season four. I always look forward to it on a warm Sunday evening.
– Jetta Harris, Campus Correspondent, University of Utah
I’m most looking forward to watching “Workaholics” because it’s hilarious and light enough for my summer-brain to handle.
– Sammie Levin, Editorial Intern, University of Michigan
“The Bachelorette”!! What’s not to love about trashy reality TV with a sweet Southern belle and some gorgeous guys?!
