400,000 Yahoo Passwords Leaked, Here Are The Most Popular

This summer has been plagued with password leaks. First it was 6.5 million LinkedIn passwords back in June, and now Yahoo’s said that 400,000 of its e-mail account passwords were snatched.

Obviously nothing good comes from a privacy breach, but there is a certain amusement in seeing which passwords rank among the most popular. Declan McCullagh, who works at CBS, listed the passwords by order of frequency, and Slate published the top 10:

1. password
2. welcome
3. qwerty
4. monkey
5. jesus
6. love
7. money
8. freedom
9. ninja
10. writer

Other interesting facts from McCullagh’s data:

48 = number of times “booty” was used in an email address or password
7,192 = number of times “love” was used in an email address or password
9 = number of times “baby” was used as a password
15 = number of times “hottie” was used as a password
