Is This the Most Insensitive Tweet of All Time?

Is that the most insensitive tweet you’ve ever seen?

In the wake of the devastating shooting that took place at the midnight screening of the Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, CO, the Twitter-verse has exploded with heartfelt, sympathetic tweets to those who fell victim to gunman James Holmes. However, CelebBoutique.com (@CelebBoutique) took a completely different approach to the tragedy.

Instead of voicing sympathy, the UK-based online boutique took credit for Aurora’s trending on Twitter, tweeting that it was because of their “Kim K inspired #Aurora dress :).” The tweet was followed by a link to an Aurora white pleated v-neck should dress that was inspired by Kardashian.

The tweet went live at 1:35 p.m. EST, but roughly an hour later, it was deleted.

@CelebBoutique released a new tweet, acknowlingly their gaffe: “We apologise for our misunderstanding about Aurora.-CB.”

As Twitter users across the country replied with unsurprising negative reactions, CelebBoutique tweeted again several moments later: “We didn’t check what the trend was about hence the confusion, again we do apologise.”

This was followed by another tweet: “We are incredibly sorry for our tweet about Aurora – Our PR is NOT US based and had no checked the reason for the trend, at that time our social media was totally UNAWARE of the situation and simply thought it was another trending topic – we have removed the very insensitive tweet and will of course take more care in future to look into what we say in our tweets. Again we do apologise for any offense caused. This was not intentional & will not occur again. Our most sincere apologies for both the tweet and situation. – CB.”

So collegiettes, how do you weigh in? Was Celeb Boutique’s tweet offensive and insensitive? Or was it just a mistake?
