Nike “Gold Digging” T-Shirts Stir Up Controversy

Sportswear giant Nike is currently under fire for their new line of Olympic women’s t-shirts.

The gray t-shirts feature the word “Gold Digging” emblazoned in big gold letters across the chest. Though Nike originally intended for a clever play-on-words, questions about the pun’s appropriateness have prompted outrage.

Nowhere is the discussion more heated than on Twitter, where users are strongly vocalizing their thoughts on the shirt design. While some describe the shirt as “funny,” others claim that it is derogatory and that Nike “didn’t think this one through.”

Nike has not yet issued a statement about the shirts.
