Her Fashion: Vintage Meets Modern

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Freshman Amber Turner beats the heat in this vintage-inspired summer look. Here in Florida, we all know how brutal summer can be! But it doesn’t stop some girls from wearing their favorite blazers or patent leather pants. This fashionista, however, embraces the summer heat with this cool and trendy ensemble.

When I first caught a glimpse of Turner walking down the sidewalk, I was immediately reminded of old movies like “Dirty Dancing” and “Shag.” Vintage style is one that will surely never go away. Why? It’s simple. We all love that nostalgic feeling we get looking back on the past.

This summer, different designers gave their take on vintage as well. The biggest example I can think of is Prada. One couldn’t help but be drawn to their collection with its shoes and glasses that were abstract renditions of ‘50s model cars.

Turner does this look beautifully with her sleeveless floral top, tied at the bottom in an effortless knot. She amps up the classic look by wearing bold coral bottoms that were seen a lot in fashion this season. She also gives the outfit a little pop with the contrasting teal bracelet. A vintage summer look isn’t complete without a pair of cat-eye style sunglasses. This fashionista is wearing a pair that is very similar and reminiscent of that style. To complete the look, she went with a simple, yet elegant, white T-strap sandal. These shoes seem to always be in fashion in one form or another, especially in the summer months.
