Hi ladies! It’s that time again in Durham! Sorority Recruitment. Whether it is taped on our dorm room walls, chalked on the sidewalks on our walk to class, or being sported by alll those girls with the letters on their shirts around campus, it’s time. We all know we’ve thought about it. Some are still contemplating, while others have been waiting since the second they got here! I am going to give you ten reasons why going through with Greek Recruitment is the best decision to make!
1. GET INVOLVED. Let’s be honest, going to classes doesn’t exactly make us feel like an ideal member of the UNH community. When we see those leaders on campus, anyone would feel inferior. Joining a sorority is the perfect way to feel like we are making an impact here! Philanthropy’s, events, and community service are only a few things that a sorority has to offer. Supporting a cause bigger than what anyone could imagine is not only rewarding, but makes us feel better! Not everyone comes to college on a sports scholarship, but for those of us that want to be a bigger part of UNH, going greek is the perfect way to do it!
2. MAKE LIFE LONG FRIENDS. Coming to college can be scary. We leave all our friends at home and have to make completely new ones, without our parents to cry to at night if something goes wrong. A sorority is a perfect way to make life long friends, without all the awkward conversation starters in class, or at the dining hall. These girls are just waiting to meet you!
3. COMMUNITY SERVICE. Some of us don’t understand how important community service is. In a sorority, not only are you making your life easier here at college, but you are helping others, and the community around you. There may be a cause that relates to one of your sisters, and how much more fun is community service if you are helping out someone you love, with the people you love!
4. RESUME BUILDER. A sorority can look great on a resume. Community service, leadership positions, philanthropic events, and many other things a sorority offers can make you out to be a very involved and determined person! And who knows, maybe your potential new boss was in the same sorority! Plus, having such close connections with so many girls can open up job opportunities that you may have never known about!
5. HOLD LEADERSHIP POSITIONS. Each and every sorority has leadership positions in order to be even more involved! Who doesn’t want to be a leader and a power figure?! This is also such a great way to learn leadership skills and can help you out later in life whether you are at work, or at home with your family!
6. CONNECTION TO A CAUSE. Each sorority has a certain cause that they support, and raise money and awareness for. Being a part of this can make you feel more connected, and closer to the cause itself, as well as your sisters. Each sorority has an event that anyone can attend in order to raise money for the cause. What is better than planning fun events, helping others, and being with your best friends?!
7. MOVE OUT OF THE DORMS. We all miss our houses at home, a living room to watch television in, a quiet room to do homework, a kitchen to make home cooked meals, and going upstairs to bed at night. Well, you can have all of that here! Each sorority has a house that you can move into! Did we say it’s with all your best friends too?!

8. ACADEMIC SUPPORT. Chances are, someone in your sorority took, or is taking the class that you are having trouble with. Study sessions at your sorority house with all your sisters can be fun and helpful! These are your new best friends, they all want to help you ace that test! And maybe someone has that expensive book you don’t want to buy at the bookstore! These are our favorite hand-me-downs.
9. RECOGNITION ON CAMPUS. Being a part of a group, cause, or team is always something to be proud of, but even more so when you are a part of all three! Wearing letters around campus is a way of showing that you are proud of your sorority, sisters, and what you all do, just like a team! Being a part of something that everyone can recognize as a positive aspect of campus is a great way to be seen on such a big campus!
10. DUH… IT’S FUN! Making tons of new friends and doing everything with your sisters is a great way to spend your time here at UNH! This campus is huge, and a sorority can make it feel that much smaller. Walking to class and seeing at least one person in your sorority can make you feel so much better! We all hate walking around campus and not seeing anyone we know! Join a sorority for the most fun and rewarding experience you can find in college!
