The St Andrews Wine and Cheese Society had their first event of the year on Tuesday 18 September. The evening was a well-attended affair held at the Byre Theater. The committee welcomed members and non-members alike; everyone was there to enjoy the selection of wine, the cheeses, and catching up with friends.
Five wines in total were served to the guests: two white, two red, and one glass of Port at the end of the evening. The general consensus among the people I talked to was that the elderflower infused white wine was the favourite. I certainly liked that one the best. Another high point of the evening was the variety and amount of cheese available. Everyone could find something they liked. The cheese did not run out either, there was still plenty left over at the end of the night.
The committee discussed the wines with the attendees before pouring the new glasses. Some wines were discussed with more knowledge than others, but websites all in Spanish apparently had something to do with that. It might not have been the most professional wine tasting event ever, but the jokes were in good taste, and everyone felt as if they had learned a bit more about fine wine.
If you like wine, cheese, or just enjoy catching up with friends then this is the society for you. Make sure you come along to their next event, like them on Facebook, or become a member.
