What’s New At Ace’s Place?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

Not only does Ace have some new swag, Ace’s Place in the MacPhaidin Library has officially had a new makeover. With a whole new layout, food selection, and furniture, Ace has really out-done himself. Library dwellers now have easy access to sandwiches, salads, bagels, yogurt, baked goods, juice, coffee, and more! No more hungry homework sessions, taking the long trek across campus to the Hill, or quality caffeine withdrawal. Sounds perfect, right? Right. All except for one thing: the hours. As of right now, Ace’s Place is open Monday to Thursday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Friday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. This seems like plenty of time to pop in, but some students think otherwise. From conversations with other student library advocates, some find that they want a nice brownie or hearty turkey sandwich around 10:00 pm, or prime homework time. Now, obviously this does not apply to all students. Not everyone wants a midnight snack, but some would prefer a little brain food around that time. Speaking from personal experience, with many late night group project meetings and homework sessions under my belt, Ace’s Place would get so much more business if it stayed open just a few more hours into the evening. This adds complications such as staffing and monitoring the café, but in my humble opinion the added business would make it worth it. But for now, take advantage of the hours it IS open, and indulge in a cupcake or delicious cookie as you work!
