Break Up with Procrastination

“I’ll get to it… tomorrow.”

In the short month since classes have started, how many times have you promised yourself you would get an assignment done, but pushed it off till later? Or how many times have you started an essay, but ended up on Facebook and Twitter instead? I know. It’s happened to me more times than I will admit too.

I start every semester saying I’m going to stop procrastinating and just get my work done. Honestly, we wouldn’t be losing so many hours of beauty sleep if we just did what we say we’re going to do, when we say it. Not procrastinating, however, is a universal struggle for all collegiettes and colle-gents, no matter where you are.

Procrastination haunts all of us, but it’s time to say goodbye to the countless hours wasted on Facebook, scrolling through the same news feed again and again, and hello to completed to-do lists! How great does that sound?

Since my classes started a few weeks ago, I started creating a list of things to do each day, whether it was for class or work. Whatever I needed to get done in one day is on that list. I allot my work throughout the week depending on deadlines and priority. Organizing my work visually helps me keep track of what I need to get done. In turn, knowing what I need to get done helps me maintain a better sense of time when I suddenly find myself idly on Facebook.

A to-do list with nothing left to do is one of the best feelings in the world and procrastination is the only thing between you and that feeling. Break up with procrastination, get down a list, and tackle it like no other. I promise, you’ll wonder why you ever let procrastination get the best of you in the past.
