I Want to be a Bargainista!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

For SMU students, the months of October, November, and December are host to a number of events such as fall formals, costume parties, and various holiday celebrations. It’s times like these that call for a re-vamp of your fall wardrobe (which can sometimes be a little pricy). But why waste money when pulling together your own fall style? There are ways to cut corners in order to splurge on the items you just cant live without while also developing some uniqueness in your wardrobe.

1. Fun and Unique Accessories / Costume Items

Pandemonium! Ltd.

Truly one of my favorite underground Dallas shops to venture into. Proving true to its name, Pandemonium! Ltd. is almost overwhelming as you enter the small cottage-esque shop off Knox-Henderson to find bags hanging from the ceiling and vintage t-shirts by the rack. Not only the perfect place to find costumes for Halloween or theme parties, Pandemonium! Ltd. is also home to an array of eclectic jewelry and vintage clutch handbags. Take a friend with you and be patient, you’re sure to find something!

(Open Wednesday through Saturday 12-6PM 2726 N. Henderson Ave. Dallas, TX 75211)

2. Fall Vintage Finds

St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store

Some people will tell you the term “thrift-store” is a bad word. They’ll conjure up images of tattered clothing and high-school band t-shirts only to perpetuate a stigma. While this may seem true for most places, at St. Vincent DePaul you can find a plethora of truly invaluable pieces to add to your fall/winter collection including vintage Ralph Lauren blazers, the “boyfriend” flannel, and over-sized knits. It’s definitely worth stopping in to browse the racks and try to find something super unique to add to your fall/winter look.

(Open Mon.– Sat. 10-7 Sun. 11–6 3052 W. Northwest Highway Dallas, TX 75220)

3. Formal / Holiday Wear

Rent the Runway

With the holidays right around the corner and formal season officially in full swing, the time has come to start planning for those extra specials nights that require a little more preparation than your typical Thursday night get-up. While searching for the perfect formal or evening dress can seem daunting or even time consuming, thanks to the aptly named website, www.RenttheRunway.com, you can rent designer dresses for 90% off retail prices! After becoming a member, simply select your price range, size, and rental delivery date to start browsing through 25,000 dresses and accessories. Not only will your dress be shipped to you, but you can also choose a backup size to be sent to you just in case! Put the dress in the mail the next morning for free.
