Midterms have arrived. Although some people might think midterms and exams are designated to a certain chunk of weeks in the school year, I’ve found that they really happen all the time throughout the semester other than maybe the first few weeks of classes and the last two weeks before finals. Therefore, we must have a good playlist, right? Forget the classical music you were told to listen to while studying; here is my playlist for studying for midterms.

1. “Lost” by Frank Ocean

Are you feeling lost in your notes? Well don’t worry because Frank Ocean is here for you and wants to help you study. Give this underrated song a listen, from Frank Ocean’s wondrous album, Channel Orange, to start off your studying.

2. “Do It Anyway” by Ben Folds Five

Oh my god the return of Ben Folds Five! Before you get too distracted with your excitement about Ben Folds Five’s return, take their advice and “do it (your studying) anyway.” There is no arguing with Chapel Hill’s finest.

3. “The Zone” by The Weekend featuring Drake

It is time to get in the zone and who better to help you than the Weeknd and Drake? With this song clocking it at seven minutes, there has got to be some way you can get in your zone by the end of it.

4. “Morning Comes” by Delta Rae

When morning comes, just think how much studying you will have done. Also, it is impossible to not be in a good mood while listening to this song or most songs by Durham-based Delta Rae.

5. “Radio” by Beyonce

Okay, it is time for a mid-playlist pick-me-up and what would this playlist be without Beyoncé? Don’t hold back when listening to this song either. Turn it up and really get into it because how could you not? Don’t mind the people sitting at the table nearby; they will get over it when they find out it’s Beyoncé.

6. “Excuses” by The Morning Benders

This song might, personally, be the perfect song to study to because it does not put you to sleep but it also isn’t like your own personal rave in the library. Don’t start making “excuses” now, guys. Study study study!

7. “Wait So Long” by Trampled By Turtles

Do you feel like this exam has been nagging on your forever? Have you “waited so long?” Well, it is almost over but while you are suffering, listen to this song because it is mind blowingly amazing.

8. “I’m Shakin'” by Jack White

It is completely understandable if you’re “shakin’” due to nerves before the test or possibly the amount of coffee you’ve consumed in the past hour. Either way, listen to this catchy song by the great Jack White to help you study.

9. “A Little Bit” by Lykki Li featuring Drake

Just “a little bit” longer…You can do it! Also, make sure to check out Lykki Li’s other songs because the Swedish pop singer makes some amazing music perfect for studying or jamming.

10. “Live While We’re Young” by One Direction

This may not seem like a “study” song but just think of the motivation it will give you. If you happen to be watching the video (or possibly glancing every 30 seconds because you’re studying right…?) just think of your weekend and how it will be filled with parties such as that one: pools, dancing, and obviously all of One Direction in attendance…
