At this point, we all have Instagram, the Facebook app, and the Flashlight app, but you might still be missing out on some. Below is a compilation of 5 iPhone apps that make the college student’s life a little more manageable, and the best part is – they are all free!

1. Epicurious Recipes and Shopping List

When you first open this app on your phone, the screen is filled with different categories to choose from such as “Healthy Breakfasts” and “Pies and Tarts.” After clicking on one of the categories, there are an abundance of recipes you can flip through. Add one to your favorites list, or straight to your shopping cart. When you go to the grocery store, you’ll automatically have all of the ingredients listed for a specific recipe right on your phone in your “shopping cart”. All of the recipes also come along with beautiful, mouth-watering pictures. It’s like a food blog, a grocery-shopping list, and a recipe finder all in one!

2. Free Wi-Fi app

With this app, you never have to worry about being stuck in a situation without Wifi. It automatically locates where you are, and searches for “hotspots” near your current location. The maps feature will get you to wifi in no time.

3. Remember the Milk

If your to-do list during the week looks anything like mine, you could probably use some help organizing and keeping track of work, friends, meetings, and everything else. This app does the trick! You can add events for each day of the week down to the hour (or minute), and it even gives you the option of breaking down your activities into categories such as “Personal”, “Study”, and “Work”.

4. iMapMyRun

When all you want to do is go on a run without a destination in mind, but also keep track of how many miles you are running, it can be frustrating when Google Maps insists you put in a specific location on a map. This app lets you manually choose your run and also tracks your location so you can track your run down to the last step you take. The app also contains additional features that allow you to keep track of what you’ve eaten that day and what nutritional content is in certain foods.

5. Foodspotting

The Foodspotting app makes it simple and fun to figure out where you want to have breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack. With beautiful photos taken by “Foodspotters” from various restaurants around the world, the app establishes your current location and provides you with pictures from nearby restaurants (and cafés, bakeries, etc.) to help you decide where to eat!

As the new owner of an iPhone (yes, I’m clearly slow on the uptake), I am steadily discovering more and more apps that make my life easier, and these 5 have all served me well. Now try them out for yourself!
