Best Date Ideas in the City

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

Fall has officially made its entrance. Gone are the days of sipping iced teas on the beach and lazy summer afternoons. The crisp, cool air is giving a warm welcome to the season of pumpkin spice lattes, fall primetime television, and of course—cuddling. Her Campus NYU has the best date ideas for you and your cuddle buddy in the city during this chilly season of change. We’ve included a list of both traditional and non-traditional ideas to fit all desires. Whether you’re a collegiette looking for the classic date or a collegiette seeking something new and quirky, we have something just for you.

A Classic Date in the City: Top 3 Traditional NYC Date Ideas

1. Ice Skating at Wollman Rink

With a picturesque cityscape and 843 acres of park landscape surrounding it, the Wollman Rink at Central Park is the perfect romantic destination this season in the city. A date spent here will be nothing short of feeling like a movie scene. Wind down the night afterwards by enjoying hot chocolate on a night stroll in the park together. The Wollman Rink is opening to the public on October 22nd this year. Visit the official site for more details.

2. Sight-seeing on the Empire State Building Observatory Deck

Take the cliché idea of a date under the moonlight to a whole new level with aerial views of glowing skyscrapers. The Empire State Building Observatory Deck will provide you and your date the perfect backdrop for memories to be captured in photographs. The chilly air at this high altitude will also work in your favor by keeping you and your date close together to stay warm. Just be sure to check the visibility before going! Nothing will ruin the night more than seeing an endless fog of clouds. Visit The Empire State Building’s website for more details.

3. Arcade Gaming at Dave and Buster’s

Nothing turns on a guy more than a girl who knows how to have fun. Find the inner kids in you and your special man at Dave and Buster’s in Time Square. With a full service restaurant and arcade, you can expect to have a night of endless entertainment. Make teasing bets going head-to-head in classic arcade games to virtual simulations. You won’t regret this playful night out because after all, what guy can’t resist a little competition from his girl? Visit the official site for more details.

Not Your Usual Date: Top 3 Non-traditional NYC Date Ideas

1. Nitehawk Cinema

Instead of doing the cliché “dinner then a movie,” why not have dinner with your movie? Nitehawk Cinema offers a unique dine-in experience in their vintage-esque Brooklyn theatre. You and your date will enjoy delectably themed foods based on movies that are currently showing and other quirky foods such as spiced pumpkin Nitehawk popcorn. For couples interested in the world of older cinema, they show classic films at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Visit the official site for more details.

2. Indoor Extreme Sports NYC

For adventurous couples seeking an adrenaline-packed date, Indoor Extreme Sports NYC will provide the venue to meet your satisfaction. With unique paintball and laser-tag arenas, you’ll be sure to impress your guy if you can keep up with these intense games. Their newest attraction, iCombat, is described as “Like Call of Duty and Battlefield, but for real!” This isn’t for the faint of heart, but it is surely an insanely fun experience for our more daring collegiettes. Visit the official site for more information.

3. The Chocolate Room

Skip the traditional romantic dinner and go right to a romantic dessert by enjoying the scrumptious range of chocolate at The Chocolate Room. With a quaint cafe and a tempting menu, you and your date can be sure to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings. From chocolate bars and baked goods to cakes, fondue and more, you won’t be disappointed. You can always buy more to take home and enjoy together later on as well.  Visit the official site for more details.
