At times, we all need to take a little break and declare a movie night at home detoxing and healing the damage our livers have endured over the past few weekends. But after watching Mean Girls for the 87th time, it’s time to add variety into your movie selection. With the advice of film major Alyssa Shaffer, I have compiled a list of the ten movies to watch for those lazy nights on the couch with a bowl of popcorn.

  1. Casablanca
We’ve all seen the cliché movie quotes that adorn Facebook profiles and albums. Add this classic to your list to fully understand the quotes, “We’ll always have Paris,” and “This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

  2. Benny and Joon
Alyssa described this movie as “a good love story with a young Johnny Depp.” That’s enough incentive for me.

  3. Adjustment Bureau
Adjustment Bureau integrates a love story and action flick into one. This kind of balance can make it
a favorite for men or women. As Alyssa explained, it would be perfect for a date night inside.

  4. The Women (2008)
The Women is an updated remake of a 1939 movie. Starring all women, this movie is perfect for a girls’ night.

  5. Kill Bill Vol. 1 & Vol. 2
Watch these two in immediate succession. Trust me.

  6. Rocky Horror Picture Show
It’s a weird movie – but also amazing. Watch it, then dress up and go to AMC Loews Harvard Square 5 Theater for the viewing. Be sure to tell them you’re a “virgin” if you’ve never gone to a Rocky Horror Picture Show enactment.

  7. Se7en
Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. Need I say more?

  8. With Honors
Alyssa recommends this 1990’s film set in Boston at Harvard. She described it as “funny” with a “good message.” It’s the perfect feel-good movie after a rough week of midterms.

  9. The Perfect Score
This movie choice in no way represents Alyssa’s sophisticated film suggestions. I couldn’t resist adding one of my personal favorites to the list.

  10. Lucky Number Slevin
Slevin is unluckily caught between two of New York City’s competing crime bosses. The plot is extremely clever and keeps viewers on their toes. I highly recommend it!
