The Top Reasons You Should Study Abroad

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

For some Nottingham students the opportunity to study abroad involves little choice, it is simply part of their course, however for others it involves a little more of a choice. Well here are the top reasons why studying abroad may just be one of the best decisions you will ever make.

1) When will you ever get the opportunity to do this again?

Whether you decide to work or study abroad, it may be something you will never get the chance to do any other time in your life. With the benefit of Nottingham’s support, student finance and study abroad grants, it will never be easier. Once you have left university things will all get more complicated, especially for those wanting to study abroad.

2) Your opportunity to Van Wilder your life away.

How can you turn down the chance to prolong your student life for as long as possible? I for one, as a final year student, am dreading the day I have to put on that cap and gown and accept that it is no longer acceptable to sit on the sofa all day, not knowing where the weekend ends and weekdays begin.

3) Bumping the Facebook friend count.

I won’t lie, it isn’t the easiest thing having close friends on different parts of the globe. It is however, nice to have friends from a totally different country, that when you save up the money, you can go visit and relive your time there.

4) It normally involves even more traveling…

There aren’t many people I know that went abroad that didn’t take the chance to explore the surrounding areas, especially those that went further afield. For example, once you have already traveled ALL the way over to America, it would be rude not to have a look around a few more states.

5) Cheesy BUT it will make you a better person.

In one way or another going away and living not only away from home but in another country will help you in some respect. Whether that be giving you more confidence, making you more independent or motivating you to go on and do more, it’s bound to change your attitude in some respect.

I’m sure there are hundreds more I could think of but I think these 5 seem to sum up pretty well all the reasons why I’m pining to return and hideously jealous of anyone that has it all to come.
