I’m sure everyone has experienced SOME paranoia walking alone. While it’s always best to walk in a group, inevitably, at some point, you’ll find yourself in a situation where you don’t have that option. We’re fortunate enough to live on an extremely safe campus, but you never know what could happen when you’re out on the town. Here are some tips if you’re in a situation when you need them!

1)     I know it sounds gross, but your first instinct should be to go for the eyes. Poking an attacker in the eyes HARD will immediately make them retreat, ensuring that you can get away.

2)     NEVER punch someone in the face unless you know how to punch correctly. More likely than not, it will hurt you more than it will hurt them. If you choose to punch someone, go for the throat in rapid succession. That can ensure you’re in control.

3)     If possible, carry around a can of mace or pepper spray. I know my friend has one that can connect to a wristlet, and they even come in cute colors so it’s not as strange to carry around. Don’t have mace? Hairspray can be a good substitute!

4)     The knees are one of the weakest parts of a male, so if you ever feel threatened, kick them in the knees and they’ll fall, especially if they’re off balance.

5)     Never underestimate a good groin kick. The groin in obviously the most sensitive part of a guy, so just go for it and get away as quickly as possible.

Remember if you’re in a crowded area, make a lot of noise and attract as much attention as possible. Don’t show fear and instead act angry. If someone demands a wallet or your purse, don’t put your life in danger for it. You’re life is worth more than your money. Remember stay alert and stay safe!
