Whilst this year the Great Hall is finally ready to host SSB again, this also means that there are half as many tickets on sale as last year. This has left far more of you than last year deprived of that golden ticket to one of the most scandalous events in Exeterâs social calendar. But do not fear, there are several events happening this Monday that will still give you an excuse to party in as little as you dare.
Â
Notoriously grimy Arena is hosting a night in conjunction with Dirty Sexy People that gives you a chance to don your skimpy tribal gear. This night promises to be âravenously dirtyâ and âinsatiably sexyâ, but at a price of just ÂŁ3.50 as oppose to ÂŁ42. This alternative to SSB still supports a worthy cause with 25p of every advanced entry ticket going to Freethebears.org. The charity, founded in 1993 by Mary Hutton, seeks to put an end to the horrific farming of bears for their bile (used in traditional medicines) that occurs across Asia. So with a reason to justify a night out and dress code as âdirtyâ as SSBâs, Arena promises a night with just as much drunken revelry and debauchery
Â
4Play Events is also giving students a chance to flaunt their assets with an event to rival Arenaâs. Having thrown the black tie SSB pre-launch party at Exeter Castle, 4Play are changing the dress code to fit the more intimate space of Mosaic. By dismissing the tribal theme and not selling tickets in advance, this night allows you to be as impulsive as you wish. Letâs be honest, spontaneous nights are always the best. Â
Or if you donât want to miss out on the dress code but would rather do it in the privacy of your own home, you could alwaysâŠ
Â
3. Throw a house party:
With a group of your closest friends, the chance to set your own theme and no curfew could turn out to be the messiest, most outrageous alternative. With many of us having reached that point in the term when weâre either hitting or extending the overdraft, a house party means you can still have the SSB experience without having to spend a penny. Equally, you can avoid having to pretend to like or cringe at music that doesnât really float your boat. Simply: have SSB your way.
Â
So whilst SSB is undoubtedly an unmissable night and rightly listed as one of FHMâs âTop 100 Things To Do Before You Die,â Arena, Mosaic and your own home could be just as, if not more, unforgettable.
(Or if you feel like thereâs just no alternative to SSB, there are still a few tickets available so get hunting!)
