Coming to Towson was typical for my high school. I can honestly say that at least half of my high school attends Towson. Don’t ask me why we all come here, but all I know is that almost everywhere I go, I see someone that I know. For me, I wanted to come and try and find all new friends. I loved high school at times, but I wanted to branch out and meet as many new people as possible. First semester of my freshman year is almost over and I can confidently say that I’ve done everything I could to make new friends, and I’ve actually succeeded. I’ve made friends with people I wouldn’t have been friends with in high school, and I’m okay with that. I like surrounding myself with a diverse group of people and my friend group reveals that.

In high school I really got into music. My love for music has grown since then, and like the past, I was able to find someone with similar music interests. I met my friend Rubi because she lived on the same floor as my other friends. We might not have clicked right away, but music has brought us closer. We’ve been to three concerts together, all within the first three months. I was so excited to meet someone that would go to concerts with me, with no begging required. Aside from concerts, we dedicate an entire day of the week to share new music with each other. Our music interests are different enough that we constantly have new music to show one another. We’re constantly texting, tweeting, or Facebooking each other about bands and tours.

I’m so happy that I’ve met Rubi this semester. I can’t imagine how different this semester would have turned out without our musical experiences. Sadly Rubi is transferring next semester, which absolutely crushed me. I’m losing my concert buddy, fellow music fiend, and most importantly, close friend. From this one semester with her, I’ve made so many memories, met and watched so many cool bands, and of course gotten so much music. It’s going to be so different without her next semester. I’m sure we’ll keep in touch, but it will be different without being a short walk across campus from new music. It will be different without a concert partner that will accompany me to any concert. It will be different without someone to be my plus one, or have me as her plus one on guest lists.

This one semester has been amazing. Aside from all the music, being friends with Rubi has shaped me as a person. People change during college, especially in their first year. Thanks to Rubi, I’ve become more musically diverse and I’ve made an amazing friend that I’ll hopefully continue to obsess over music with for the rest of our lives. Maybe one day our jokes will become reality and we’ll work together someday, her the fancy businesswoman in the music industry and me the magazine writer. I don’t know what our future together will be, but I do know that Rubi has impacted my life greatly. And for that, I am thankfully to call her my friend.
