HC Hofstra’s Guide to Surviving Finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

It comes as no surprise that finals week is the most stressful time of the year. In the spirit of slight procrastination, read how the HC Hofstra team copes with the pressure. Whether it’s over-caffeinating or taking a break from being buried in study guides, we’ve all got our own personal survival skills.

Keegan, Week Ahead Editor: I survive by going to a quiet place in the library and drinking lots of coffee. When I study I always have the Norah Jones Pandora station on. It’s soothing and helps me focus!

Laurel, Designated Intern Blogger: I eat a lot of chocolate and think about the light at the end of the tunnel; meaning being home with my friends and family for Christmas. And I take lots of deep breaths.

Nikki, Campus Couture Editor: My study regime involves studying in my room (despite the distractions) and eating any unhealthy thing in my reach. Please don’t follow my example!

Jasmine, Social Media Chair: I don’t have a specific regime, I just try and stay calm and study. Simple yet effective. However, when finals have finally ended I do tend to through myself a little party that include but aren’t limited to chocolate covered strawberries.

Dilpreet, Campus Celebrity Editor: During finals week, my diet is usually all coffee and even candy. I usually study in the library. Those private study rooms work for me. Basically, putting in my headphones, with my cup of coffee, snacks and books piled around me. I know I need quiet time to make any progress!

Jenny, Campus Cutie Editor: I dedicate one cram day to each class I have a final for. It helps me stay focused on each subject at a time.

Sidney, EIC/ Campus Correspondent: Since I generally take classes with the same people all the time (journalism or sociology majors), I tend to work well in study and discussion groups. Talking about the concepts out loud with other people help me remember them better.

Rachel, EIC/ Campus Correspondent: I survive finals week by creating day-to-day schedules and lists of how many things I still have to do per class. Also, I make sure to give myself short breaks from large projects or study sessions so my mind can catch up!

Good luck on finals week, Hofstra collegiettes!
