Last April, Lena Dunham appeared out of nowhere and created, directed, and starred in one of television’s most brilliant and relatable shows of all time called Girls. For those of you who have never heard or seen this HBO comedy, it is about four young women, Hannah (played by Lena Dunham), Marnie, Jessa, and Shoshanna, and how they struggle through their relationships, jobs, and friends while living in New York City. Some have called this show the unglamorous version of Sex and The City. The first few episodes of season one you almost hate Girls, because it is as if reality is hitting you in the face as you watch. But then you can’t help but get into the characters’ lives and you end up watching a marathon of six episodes.
Season two starts Sunday, January 13th at 9:00 pm on HBO and here are ten reasons why we are so excited (based on the new trailers released by HBO):
1. Hannah and Adam are done… for now. Season one was certainly a roller coaster ride for Hannah and Adam. At one point, we were all hoping that they would end whatever they had with each other. However, the last few episodes we started to like Adam a little more once they started to date. Then during the last episode of the season, Hannah drops a bombshell that Elijah (her ex-boyfriend who is now gay) is moving in with her and Adam then claims he is done with Hannah and all of her games. So now we are thinking that Hannah is newly single and Adam is out of her life, but according to the previews we are so wrong. Adam is coming back for Hannah and we can’t wait to see how she responds.
2. Shoshanna and Ray are sleeping together. Shoshanna is one of my favorite characters because she is funniest one of the show. Which is why she is meant to be with Ray because he is also hysterical. Last season, Shoshanna made it clear to every character on Girls that she was a virgin and her goal for the season was to lose it. Ray, on the other hand, is a lot older than Shoshanna and sleeps around, but somehow is fascinated with her. In the last episode Shoshanna loses it to Ray and he didn’t “stay out of her emotional way.” But it seems as if Shoshanna has finally become a woman with Ray and that they will get back together in season two.Â
3. Jessa is a wife with puppies. Jessa was the character we never even thought would be in a long-term relationship but now she is married to Thomas John (the creepy venture capitalist who watches Marnie and Jessa make out in “Weirdos Need Girlfriends Too”)! It is going to be so interesting to see Jessa committed to someone who she had no interest in and I predict that this marriage could’ve been a smart choice for the British Bohemian. Â
4. Marnie is the new Hannah. At the start of last season Marnie had everything going right in contrast to her old best friend and roommate Hannah. She had the job, the boyfriend, and the best friend. But in just one season, Marnie lost it all. I had a difficult time relating to Marnie’s perfect lifestyle but now I am so excited to see everything fall apart for her and how she able to pick up the pieces.
5. Hannah and Elijah are BFFs and roommates. My favorite part of season one was in “All Adventurous Women Do,” when we found out Hannah’s ex-boyfriend from college, Elijah, is gay (if you ever want to see comedy at its finest please watch that scene). During the last episode of season one, Elijah and Hannah are both looking for roommates and Hannah suggests to Elijah that he move into her apartment. This is also one of the reasons why Hannah and Adam break up. I think it is going to be really fun to see Elijah and Hannah become best friends now and to also see how living with each other is different than Hannah living with Marnie. Â
6. Marnie and Booth Jonathan finally do it. Back in “All Adventurous Women Do,” Marnie met sexy artist, Booth Jonathan when she used to work for an art gallery. He took her outside and told her that he might scare her because he is man and knows how to do things. Marnie was so turned on during that scene but could not act upon it because she was with her clingy college boyfriend, Charlie. Now Marnie is single and it appears that Booth and Marnie meet again; and this time it looks like they might do the deed.
7. More embarrassing dance moves from Hannah. The first time we saw Hannah dance with Marnie was during “All Adventurous Women Do” and it was hysterical. But nothing is better than her dancing in “Welcome to Brushwick a.k.a The Crackcident.” I love when Hannah dances because it is the definition of a hot mess. It looks as though we might have more dancing from Hannah and co. this season and it’s going to be so great.
8. The outrageous hookups. On Girls anything could happen. I have a feeling season two is going to have plenty more of those bizarre hookups with all know and love.
9. Adam being super creepy and crazy. Okay I will be the first to admit this but I love crazy Adam. In fact, it would not be the same show without crazy Adam. Lena is definitely planning some interesting storylines for Adam and Hannah and I am on the edge of my couch with anticipation.
10. The amazing Hannah Horvath quotes. Last season Hannah always knew what to say and not just because she is a writer, but because she is Hannah. I already have my favorite quote of season two, which is how I know this is already going to be even better than season one. Which one is it? Tune it and I am sure you will find out.
Here’s to a great new season of Girls and a lot of amazing things to look forward to!
