What activities do you do around campus?
I like to keep busy.  I’m a member of S-Factor, VP of ALAS (Association of Latin American Students), I intern for the Office of Undergrad Admissions working for diversity recruitment and I just wrapped up Hamlet the Hip-Hopera.

Can you elaborate on what S-Factor is?
S-Factor is Tufts’ all-male acapella group that specializes in music from the African Diaspora.  That includes R&B, Hip-Hop, Gospel, Soul, Rap…along those lines.  I’ve been involved since first week freshman year.

Did you always sing? How did you become involved with S-Factor?
Not even close.  I used to sing in my church choir but I only did that until I was 14.  I never considered doing acapella but after seeing S-Factor a bunch during orientation, it seemed like a lot of fun. I almost needed to be dragged to the audition, I was so nervous, but I’m glad I went through with it.  It’s a great group of guys.

Are you recruiting for S-Factor? How can Jumbos join?
We’re always looking for new talent.  We typically hold auditions at the start of fall semester but we occasionally have auditions in the spring.  Just get in touch with someone in the group for information

Great! When and where can we see you guys perform next?
Some upcoming ones are the Africana Center’s MLK Celebration on Tuesday Jan 29th and Hillel’s Gospel Shabbat on Feb 8th.  Or if you’re in NYC during spring break, we’ll be on tour around the city.

Now a little bit more about you! Who is your favorite musical artist?
There are so many incredible artists out there but some of my favorites are John Legend, Kendrick Lamar, Stevie Wonder, early Kanye, Pretty Lights

Do you have any heros?
My mother is my hero.  She immigrated to this country and put herself through college all while raising six kids.  She’s done everything in her power to provide a better life for us and I could not be more grateful.  She’s my inspiration.

What has been your biggest accomplishment at Tufts?
My work with the admissions office, particularly the Voice of Tufts program, has been very rewarding.  We bring around 250 prospective students to campus who are interested in diversity at Tufts.  It shows many high schoolers who otherwise wouldn’t be able to visit, what life at Tufts is all about. We’ve had a very successful program during my time working and the program is only increasing in popularity.

Any words of wisdom for the younger Jumbos out there?
Reward yourself for your hard work, however that may be. Don’t take everything so serious. Smile
