Sibs Weekend: The Table has Turned

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

The annual pilgrimage of siblings arriving in Athens is happening all too soon. The campus and town will be full of students who are excited to show off every bit of knowledge of Ohio University and make sure the beloved sib leaves town with some OU gear. But, what do you do when your sib is an OU alum?

For three years, I came and visited my sister while she was a student at OU and I was a wee high schooler. We always went to the Shiny Diner on Court Street; bought some OU hoodies at College Bookstore, took a few trips up to The Ridges and my sister always took me on tours around campus (she was still trying to convince me to come to OU at that point).

But now, I’m a senior and the table has been turned: my sister is coming to visit me for Sibs Weekend! Of course being the legal adults we are, we plan to hit up some quality Athens bars (even though my sister and I have different taste in “quality bars”), but the experience is going to be weird for me; I’m now the OU student and she’s the sib coming in for a weekend that always goes by far too quickly.

I’m sure my sister will be all nostalgic and want to visit her old dorms and even head up to The Ridges and maybe we’ll indulge in some late night cravings of DP Dough or Big Mamma’s, but I’m not sure to expect this year being on the flip side of a Sibs Weekend visit. I’m certain there will be plenty of running form place to place, many friends to meet and some O’Betty’s during the weekend. There will be plenty for my sister to catch up on and things for her to see that have changed since she’s been here — my sister has never seen Jeff Hill as a road, and I’m certain it will devastate her we can’t easily sled down it now. But even though the situation is reversed, I’m just as excited to be welcoming a sib into town next weekend.

One thing I do look forward to is having my sister visit me for Sibs Weekend, as well as having her back in Athens for the first time in three years. And don’t worry; I’ll be sure she buys one more OU hoodie before the weekend is over.
