Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of weeks, you know that we’re in the midst of the fabled Awards Season. From planning the perfect Oscars-night party to cringing at questionable Golden Globes attire, there’s no shortage of entertainment when it comes to movies and TV shows right now. But what you may not have known is that New Orleans isn’t lacking in the entertainment department either! More specifically, countless movies and TV shows have been either totally or partially filmed in our beautiful city. Now you see why New Orleans is called the Hollywood of the South! So in the Awards Season spirit, I’ve compiled a list of some of the must-see productions filmed either partially or totally New Orleans! Be sure to check out a more complete list here!

1. 21 Jump Street (2011)
First of all, who does’t secretly or not-so-secretly love this reboot of the classic TV series? Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are absolutely hilarious is the funny, and filmed partially in New Orleans, movie. The light hearted tone and laugh-out-loud scenes make it the perfect movie to rent for a night in.Â
Â
2. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2007)
Simply put, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a beautiful, heart-wrenching movie. Set partially during the days before Hurricane Katrina, this movie is a must-see, both for the touching story line and the gorgeous New-Orleans backdrop. It’s no wonder that this movie was nominated for Best Picture at the 81st Academy Awards.Â

3. Pitbulls and Parolees (Season 4)
Watch this heart-warming show about rescue dogs being cared for by parolees and I dare you not to get emotional. Corny as this reality show may sound, the adorable dogs and the care that they are shown by their rescuers makes it more than watchable! Any season of the show is worthy, but their recent move from Los Angeles to the Lower Ninth Ward earns this show its place on my must-see NOLA list!

4. The Lucky One (2012)
To start with, this movie is based on the beautiful book written by Nicolas Sparks, author of arguably one of the best romantic tales ever, The Notebook. If that isn’t enough to convince you to check out The Lucky One, then maybe the fact that it was partially filmed in New Orleans will make you more likely to choose this movie during a late night popcorn and Netflix marathon!
